New GR3 movie
Posted by Rocky on Monday, June 27 2005

Kurtz spotted a new 12Mb Ghost Recon 3 movie at 3dgamers, check it out!  It's called the Name Trailer because it's the first movie to feature the new Warfighter logo, right at the end. Fans might recognise most of the movie footage, but it has been spruced up a bit.

Warfighter
Posted by Rocky on Monday, June 27 2005

I was thinking today how strange it was that several sites (including Ubisoft) have been referring to Ghost Recon 3 as "Warfighter", and yet this title had never been officially announced. Well it is announced now, 3 hours ago Ubisoft sent out this press release that announces the official title for Ghost Recon 3.

Ghost Recon 3 Advanced Warfighter

GR3 QA
Posted by Rocky on Monday, June 27 2005

Ubisoft have released a new Question and Answer session dealing with the development of Ghost Recon 3. The QA session contains 3 new images and covers topics such as the improvements over the console version that the PC version will be boasting. It's also nice to see the developers have been taking an interest in the views of the tremendously loyal but demanding fan base..

"In the PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, we will develop the tactical aspect further than in the other versions, because this approach best fits this platform, and we know that all Ghost Recon fans are expecting to be able to plan their team’s actions on the battlefield."

"Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter has a lot in common with the features that the fans loved in the first opus, the features from a tactical shooter."

Discuss this news in our forums here where fans are already expressing their relief that at last there is some concrete word on the PC version of Ghost Recon 3, and quite promising it sounds too.

YOTM Interview
Posted by Rocky on Saturday, June 18 2005

Year of the Monkey (YOTM) promises to be one of the most exciting mod releases for Ghost Recon this year, infact it could be one of the greatest mods ever released for Ghost Recon if it reaches its potential.

You may be surprised to hear that YOTM has actually been in progress for around 3 years, and it's never been closer to release than now. With that in mind we interviewed project leader The Blakeness and snagged a few screenshots while we were at it. Read the full YOTM interview for details on the talented team working on YOTM, the maps, the missions and the weapons.

Summit Strike
Posted by Rocky on Friday, June 17 2005

Gamespot have a new article up taking a look at Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike.

"The 11 missions will feature a significantly different structure from their counterparts in Ghost Recon 2, due to Red Storm's attempts to tweak the game based on user feedback. As a result, the missions in Summit Strike will offer a far less linear experience than the first game, and you will instead be able to structure your experiences to your liking."

The rest of the preview reveals quite a lot of new content and enhancements in this official GR2 Xbox expansion pack, read the full preview here. Forum discussion here.

Swartsz has been responsible for some of the best weapon models ever seen in Ghost Recon and was the holder of our Best New Modder award in 2004. It was just over 2 years ago that Swartsz installed Ghost Recon and started posting in the forums here. Not long after that he released his first mod - Silent Warrior. Ever since then he has been working on improving his weapon modelling skills, and recently landed work at a game design studio. Catch up with Swartsz's latest models in our forums here.

Trainride Movie
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, June 14 2005

Deleyt continues to make progress with his promising Trainride mod for Ghost Recon. This week he blessed us with a great movie showing how things are coming along. As you'll see you can ride on a moving train, with awesome sounds, and operating doors. You'll also see how it's possible to run up and down the carriages, run over the train tacks from train to train using convenient planks of wood, all at breakneck train speed!

It really is very cool, CQB Rainbow Six fans are going to wonder why on earth they've never had this! Check it out and post some feedback for Deleyt here.

Sonedecker Interview
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, June 14 2005

Today we are publishing our interview with John Sonedecker, ex Red Storm Entertainment game designer. The result is a very candid, detailed and open interview that includes references to Rogue Spear, Ghost Recon, Combat Elite and the time John spent with another game design team before starting his own studio.

In the second new mission pack from Trench Soldier today there are 13 missions based around a fictitional battle in present day Somalia.

Kimi Interview
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, June 7 2005

Kimi managed to get a quick interview with Christian Allen from Redstorm at E3 this year. At 1 minute 20 seconds this is a short video, but I liked it alot; the sound quality is great and it's quite professional compared to some other E3 videos with game action spliced into the interview. Christian talks about fan feedback and mission linearity which sounds promising for Summit Strike.

The video for the interview can be downloaded in various resolutions at 1up.com! Comment on this video here.

Grin play it cool
Posted by Rocky on Friday, June 3 2005

The developer for the PC version of Ghost Recon 3 is obviously keeping in touch with the Ghost Recon community. Many fans are disallusioned with the direction Ghost Recon seems to be taking with the console versions, with a shift away from the steatlth that made the Ghosts famous. Grin seem to be very much aware of this, and have posted this on their website.

"We at GRIN are excited and truly happy to be trusted with the development of this game and to bring the legacy forward on the PC. The name of the brand is a no brainer - but we leave it at that for the moment, going covert and stealthy just as it should be.

We want the fans to know that we are fans ourselves and are working hard to bring the classic feeling into the new product."

It's interesting to note the wording, especially the use of the word "classic", bearing in mind the recent GR Classic campaign started by Whiteknight recently. Discussion on Grin's approach is well underway here.
